Privacy Policy for Sunfall

Last updated: 7 September 2026

Sunfall is built so that there is nothing to collect. This policy explains exactly what that means.

What Sunfall does not do

Sunfall does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. It has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third party SDKs. There is no Sunfall server, so there is nowhere for your information to be sent.

The one time Sunfall uses the network

If you search for a place by name, the text you type is sent to Apple's geocoding service to turn it into coordinates. That happens only while you are actively searching, and it is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Nothing else in the app uses the network: every sunrise, sunset, golden hour and sun bearing is calculated on your device, and places you have already saved keep working with no connection at all.

Location

Sunfall asks for access to your location while you are using the app. Your location is the one piece of information the calculations require, because sunrise, sunset, golden hour and the sun's bearing are entirely determined by where you are standing.

Your location is used only on your device, only while the app is open, and only to perform those calculations. It is never sent to a server, never written to any remote storage, and never shared with anyone. It is not retained after the app closes. There is no server to send it to.

If you decline location access, the app will tell you it cannot calculate times and will do nothing else. You can change this at any time in the iOS Settings app.

Place names

If your device has a network connection, iOS may convert your coordinates into a nearby place name for display at the top of the screen. This is handled by Apple's own geocoding service under Apple's privacy policy, and is purely cosmetic. If there is no connection, the app shows your coordinates instead and works normally.

Feedback

The feedback button opens your own mail app with a message addressed to me, pre-filled with the app version and your iOS version so a bug report is useful. You can edit or delete any of that before sending, and nothing is sent unless you send it yourself. Sunfall does not transmit the message; your mail app does.

Notifications

If you turn on the golden hour reminder, the notification is scheduled locally on your device by iOS. Nothing is sent anywhere, and no push service is involved.

Children

Sunfall is suitable for all ages and does not collect information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above.
